As some of you know, several years ago, with the help of my great
friend Pete Notarangelo, I set out to follow a lifelong passion for
music. We created a series of hour-long audio shows called American
Soundways, which explores the music past, present and emerging in
various cities throughout the U.S., mixed with a bit of history about
the area. The shows were rich with music and featured interviews with
artists about those cities and their connection to them We were
fortunate enough to get help from artists such as The Avett Brothers,
Mitch Easter, Derek Trucks, Michelle Shocked, Jorma Kaukonen, Kelly
Joe Phelps and others.
Six shows were completed and were well received, both locally and
nationally. WYEP was a great supporter of the program and we received
a number of rave reviews from veteran Producers across the country,
who said that the format was unique and had never been done before.
The Sprout Fund was kind enough to fund the production of the
Pittsburgh show and another friend, Henry Simonds, was brought on late
in the process to assist with the development of the project.
Unfortunately, keeping the lights on, putting food on the table and
the weight of the almost insurmountable odds of syndicating a national
radio show brought the project to a halt.
The future of American Soundways is uncertain, but at the request of
several friends I have made the programs available online. Please
listen to them. If you love them or hate them please let me know. If
you want to fund the production of a bunch more please also let me
know. If you.ve made it this far, thanks for your interest.
